What is the difference between private duty home care and home health care?

I often get this question from clients and family members. Private Duty Home Care focuses on activities of daily living in the home and is often provided by certified caregivers who assist with needs daily such as personal care, home management, meal preparation and more. While this care is overseen by a Registered Nurse it is not considered medical care. Home Health typically provides a combination of some therapy services such as Physical and Occupational Therapy along with Nursing services that are more medical in nature. Home Health also requires a physicians order.

Private duty home care and home health care are often complimentary services and used together depending on the clients needs. Our care givers can provide support daily or several days per week at any duration. Home health typically has limited time for personal care tasks. Both are great services and its never a choice of one or the other as both services can work together to help you or your loved one achieve your health goals and remain at home, as independent as possible.
