Senior loneliness and isolation, a serious health concern.

As we age we seem to get more and more limited in our ability to leave our home which means we lose that needed interaction with loved ones a friends. Loneliness can cause more than sadness and depression it can actually worsen physical illnesses. With almost 30% of Americans over 65 years of age living alone this is a real risk factor for the health of our seniors. So what can you do to help? Frequent phone calls and visits are a good way to stay connected. Encourage your loved one to get out more, offer to take them for lunch, church or other activities they enjoy. Many communities offer senior centers and provide transportation to seniors. Church friends and neighbors should be made aware that your loved one is homebound and ask for support. Periodic home care visits by a trained caregiver is another great option. Our agency provides services as much or little as needed and can encourage your loved one to do as much for themselves as possible all while developing a rapport and friendship. We offer transportation services and can help your loved one safely leave their home and enjoy the little things in life like a trip to the grocery store or their favorite deli for lunch. One visit a week and one outing a month can make such a difference. If we can help you combat loneliness in yoru loved one please call us at 478-994-9535.
